Twinwoods Heat and Power Update

Civil and building works are well underway in anticipation of the installation of the small-scale biomass power plant located on the Twinwoods Business Park, Bedfordshire.


Twinwoods Heat & Power is a joint-venture between Bioflame, Climate Change Capital, Growing Beds and B&W Group and has been created to generate and export renewable electricity to the National Grid using low-grade waste wood as a feedstock. The Joint Venture is expecting to take occupation of the building from Skelton Group in June 2010. Orders for long-lead items including the boiler and turbine have already been placed and the grid connection secured. Equipment will begin to arrive on the site once the joint venture as adopted the building and the plant is expected to be operational by March 2011.

 

Full planning permission for the 2.5MWe biomass power plant has been granted by Bedfordshire County Council and the Environmental Permit, issued and controlled by the Environment Agency, will be issued in the next few weeks. Accreditation from OFGEM, to enable the facility to be entitled to Renewable Obligation Certificates (ROCs) is expected shortly and a long-term Power Purchase Agreement has been secured.  

  

Having commissioned their first commercial scale plant in Lincolnshire, Bioflame are currently engaged in the development of 4 identical systems in South Yorkshire, East Riding of Yorkshire, Bedfordshire and Nottinghamshire. Bioflame have secured planning permission on a further 8 sites and have an additional 8 projects in the planning system.
