Caythorpe in Lincolnshire to be the first UK village powered entirely by waste wood
In it's first joint venture, Bioflame has teamed up with the recycling company to form a new company called PBM Power Ltd. Mid-Uk Managing Director Chris Mountain claims "approximately 25,000 tonnes of wood waste that currently leaves our site on lorries will be able to be converted into electrical energy on-site. Not only will the local traffic situation be eased but enough energy to power about 4500 homes will be created". Because electricity effectively flows like water, the 2.5MW generated at the Materials Recycling Facility will flow to it's nearest point of usage - namely the village of Caythorpe and all the other surrounding villages and farms
The plant is now in commissioning and it should have first generated electricity to the grid by the end of November 2008 - but the grid connection, (which was bought and paid for by us at vast cost on 6th December 2007 and promised for delivery no later than August 2008) is still without a fixed connection date - Thanks for that EON. We expect the grid connection to be made available to us in mid-January and electricity will flow the next day.
