Green Belt approval as City of York Planning Comittee grant permission to Yorwaste Heat & Power
15 January 2009
Another proposal to build a 2.5MWe generating station running on waste wood and situated in a Green Belt has been granted planning approval subject to Secretary of State approval
On 15th January 2009, The City of York Council Planning Committee decided to grant approval for a planning application before it. This represents another planning victory for the company and is the first time a planning has been achieved in a Green Belt. The company's 100% record of planning sucess continues. The Joint Venture development to be known as Yorwaste Heat & Power will export 2.5MW of electricity from the site at Harewood Whin, Rufforth, York. The joint venture is between Yorwaste Ltd and Bioflame and the plant will be built during the next two years.
Stiff opposition for the proposal came from the residents of Rufforth but we can guarantee that their environment will not be adversley affected by the proposal. Any member of the public who still needs reassurance is welcome to contact us.
The decision was nearly deferred but strong chair leadership from Cllr David Houton eventually overturned the motion to defer and the application was granted 5:2 with cross-party support. Our thanks go to Erik Matthews and his team in the planning department lead by Gareth Arnold for guiding the application to a welcome conclusion in a most erudite and professional manner
